Black & Orange Tangerine Phase Plugs - Why?

That black one looks like there was still a little gray compound in the sprue or barrel when it was shot. QC would have sent that part back to me when i worked in injection molding.

awesome info Bowtie427, from the pics, it looks like the black one was spray painted, looks a little fuzzy in the slots... can someone answer this? why are there so many screws and screw holes in some altec back plates? Didnt know what to call it, back plate sounded good.....

So, Bowtie worked manufacturing them, Old Guy sold them, and GM just knows everything about them? I would be interested in learning about forum members related to the Altec legend.

No no no............... i worked in injection molding, but we didn't make Tangerines. I'm just familiar with the processes and tooling involved. The plastics company i worked for made grips for aircraft controls and other military hardware.

I recognized the gray areas on that black phase plug as contamination in the mold compound. While it probably has zero effect on the performance or lifespan of the part, it would fail a visual inspection where i worked by most contract standards.

If Altec had continued, a lead+depleted uranium version would have been offered for heavy-metal stalwarts.
